GLO Begins Operations In October

GLOBACOM has indicated plans to finally launch its operations in Ghana as the sixth mobile phone service provider in October 2010. This would be after the commercial launch of its GLO-1 submarine cable officially slated for August.

The Group’s Chief Operating Officer, Mohammed Jameel made these known at a News conference in Lagos, Nigeria.

He is reported to have emphasized that the company was not worried, and even if it takes three months they would roll out in Ghana. He however noted that the company wants to do things right for a succesful enrty onto the Ghanaian market.

Globacom also refuted media reports that it was considering pulling out of Ghana due to alleged sabotage and deliberate attempts to delay its network launch. According to Mr. Jameel, the firm has invested so much in its Ghanaian operations and was not ready to backout, despite all the challenges encountered.

GLOBACOM was granted the country's sixth mobile license in June 2008 and has been working tirelessly to launch its operations.
