Sprinter Aziz Zakari is through to the final of the 100 meter event at the ongoing Africa Athletics Championship in Kenya.
Aziz came first in a time of 10.16 seconds in the third semi final heat and in the process claimed the best overall sprint record.
The Veteran athlete’s performance was the major highlight of the Ghanaian contingents opening day displays following the exit of Godwin Hubortsi, Flings Owusu Agyapong and Beatrice Gyaman in the 100 meter semi finals.
Another medal hopeful Linda Benin surprisingly came fifth in the women’s Hammer throw event.
Meanwhile, Ignitious Gaisah and Robert Martey are still in the running to clinch medal places in the men’s long jump after securing qualification yesterday.
Gaisah faces a tough competition from South Africa’s Godfrey Kotso Mokoena and Senegal’s Ndiss Kaba BADJI for a place in the final three later today July 29
Elizabeth Amolofo and Rosina Amenebede also made the final cut to the semi finals of the 400 meter and 100 meter hurdles respectively.
However, the duo has to perform above their limit to win medals.
